Straight Out of Bed

Dresses (left to right) : Gold Hawk, H&M, Simone Rocha, Joseph Washed, Phillip Lim
Shoes : Topshop, MSGM, Phillip Lim

Wearing dresses that replicate slips has become a new, popular trend displayed on various red carpets and worn by celebrities like Rihanna and Kylie Jenner.  Effortless and chic, it can be dressed down with sneakers or paired with high heels for a fancier occasion.
Although pairing sneakers with the dress gives a look that's slightly more casual and sporty, my favorite way to wear this dress is to pair it with heels, especially if they have an irresistible puff at the toe.  The juxtaposition of a preppy heel with the relaxed nature of a lacy, silk dress creates a sensual feeling, without being too revealing.  It also makes me think of the famous robots from one of my favorite movies Austin Powers.  Who wouldn't want to be a fashionable ladybot that squirts poisonous gas out of her bra?

It's Time

Starting school is not easy, trust me, I just finished my third week.  Based on my weeks, I got a sense of the crucial staples needed for school. One large aspect of high school, at least for me, is homework that usually results in late nights filled with art history flashcards and worrying about college. With four AP classes, I am all for sweatpants after those late nights, but only occasionally; finding ways to be fashionable, while comfortable is key for school.  Dressing in a way that makes me feel confident is something that I usually don't get when I wear a t shirt and yoga pants.   And when I am giving an oral presentation in Spanish or running a club, I need to feel comfortable in my own skin, and so should you!

Apart from clothes, there are several other aspects of school that should be taken in consideration. I always like to keep a bag filled with beauty supplies or products that I feel are necessary throughout the day or in case of an emergency.

Finally, beyond material objects, school can be challenging and as much as I wish it wasn't true, it is not always easier with a new cashmere sweater or fancy perfume(most of the time).  Relaxation does not usually come into context when school is brought up, but is something important.  Although school can be sleep depriving and stressful, it is essential to try to eliminate those components with relaxation.  Find something that makes you happy or will be relaxing.  Another part of school that many students encounter is pressure; with school, comes the thought of college and success in the future that brings a great deal of individual pressure.  This pressure can come from your friends, your family, or even yourself.  It is always necessary to remind yourself that although it is important to try hard in high school, it is only four years of your life, and it will not affect your entire future.

Pop Up

Although this is not particularly a new trend, I have been loving pieces with textural design.  Texture adds a three dimensional effect, creating the perfect amount of edge or chicness.   In 'Ten Again', I wear one of my favorite jackets that is covered with tiny loops of thread, making it more than just a simple white cardigan.  One of my favorite parts about wearing something with texture is that it can be minimal or add to a busy outfit.  When I am waking up at 6 a.m. to get ready for school, the last thing I want to do is wear something uncomfortable or nonfunctional; I need to be productive during my day whether it is running to my next class or meeting for a club. The easiest option is to pair jeans, a t-shirt, and a jacket with an intricate design.  This choice makes for a simple outfit, but still looks polished and well thought out.  See what a textured piece could do to your outfit.

Monday (Thursday?) List

The school year is coming to an end and for some, has even already ended. Currently, I only have one more week for final exams, but afterwords I'm heading straight to the beach.  Here are my beach essentials for summer! xx

1. flip flops

2. bathing suit

3. cover up

4. sunscreen

5. sunglasses

Ten Again

I'm more of a pants person myself, but who can resist a bright pink Mexican dress.  My parents purchased this dress for me during a trip to Mexico many years ago and although it is much tighter and shorter, it still fits.  I often find myself sorting through old clothing items and finding new ways to incorporate them into my current wardrobe.  As soon as I saw the bright color, detailed colorful flowers and birds(ah nature), and slits at the sides, I knew I needed to find a way to slip it into my everyday style.  I paired the dress with one of my favorite jackets, a white textured cardigan.  Although it is faint, there are thin beige stripes, which I recently discovered, that add a little more edge and modernism to the look.  With this busy outfit, I added simple black boots, adding yet another edgy touch.

Monday's List

Spring has already arrived and here are the top five essentials on my list.

1.  Light Clothes :  A thin cardigan or cotton long sleeve shirt keeps your body cool outside, but adds a layer of protection against the air conditioning inside.

2. Sun Protection:  Technically sunscreen or sunglasses should be worn throughout the whole year, but it is never too late to start.

3. Sandals

4. Statement Piece:  Whether it is a nail polish or sundress, Spring is the perfect season to incorporate bright colors or patterns into your wardrobe.

5. Staple Bag:  A bag is always useful for when you are on the go.  I would recommend one of neutral color; it won't clash with the flower print dress and neon flats that you're wearing.

Monday List

Amongst the chaos that is called life, I find that I need to have a period of time to do something relaxing in order to keep my sanity.   This time of relaxation especially comes to play during school nights when my free time is limited. For whatever reason, one activity that seems to calm me down is to make lists or schedules. I guess it is a way for me to organize myself in complicated or stressful situations.  I have decided (drumroll please) that Monday is officially the day on my blog for me to create a list of top five things of different categories.   As a result of my heavy homework load, I may not always be able to do a list for every single monday, but will try my best.  Here it goes..

Top Five Favorite Fashion Icons

1. Anna Wintour

2. Olivia Palermo

 3. Leandra Medine

 4. Olsen Twins

5. Rachel Zoe

Each icon has unique styles. Whether it is Olivia's effortless combinations to the always put together Anna, they all show their individuality through their wardrobes.

Seventh Grade Nightmare

My style has changed drastically throughout my fifteen years of life.  I mean realistically its probably changed drastically from just a couple months ago. Some of the pieces I have previously despised are now the ones I am desperately searching for when I go shopping.  Take flats for example; I am currently on the hunt for a great pair of ballet flats for everyday use. When I was younger, (for whatever reason) wearing flats was one fashion rule I did not want to break. My twelve year old self thought wearing flats was something very childish to do.  Ironically enough, those were the same years I wore bright, blue jeggings and sported over-side parted hair.  Or take skinny jeans; I have only worn jeans that were skinny until now.  Currently, I am becoming more interested in experimenting with other shapes of jeans such as with a pair with a bootcut style or wait for it, bell bottoms.  With all these style changes, I am curious how I will feel in five years about my choices, probably regret.
